Seven Syrian migrants die as boat capsizes off Cyprus coast

On March 17, a boat carrying 21 migrants capsized near Cape Greco, about 45 kilometers from the northeastern coast of Cyprus, leading to the confirmed deaths of at least seven people.

Cypriot rescue teams have saved two survivors so far. One of them reported that the passengers were refugees from the Syrian city of Tartus.

The Cyprus Joint Rescue Coordination Center has deployed extensive resources for the ongoing search operation, including a military vessel, two helicopters, a drone, and four port police boats.

Cyprus has experienced a sharp rise in migrant arrivals over the past year, with many fleeing conflict in Syria.
