Italian authorities have arrested four Moroccans in Turin after uncovering a disturbing human trafficking plot—smuggling a two-month-old baby girl into Italy, hidden inside a shopping bag, to sell her to another family.
The shocking case surfaced after a report landed on the desk of Turin’s Public Prosecutor. Investigators discovered that a Moroccan couple had been harboring the infant for weeks, allegedly preparing to sell her to a third party.
Digging deeper, authorities traced the child’s journey. Born in August 2024, she had been smuggled into Italy in October aboard a ferry from Tangier. To avoid detection, the couple stuffed her into a shopping bag for the entire trip—a harrowing ordeal that left the baby in fragile health. Concerned, the woman eventually sought medical attention for the child in Turin.
Further investigation revealed the involvement of two additional Moroccan nationals—a man and a woman—who temporarily sheltered the infant while arrangements were being made to hand her over to a buyer. If they couldn’t secure a deal in Italy, the group reportedly considered smuggling her out of the country to erase any trace of her existence.
On March 12, authorities raided the suspects’ residence, rescuing the baby and rushing her to Regina Margherita Hospital for evaluation. Fortunately, despite the horrifying circumstances, doctors confirmed she was in stable condition.
The four suspects now face grave charges, including violating immigration laws and facilitating illegal residency. Meanwhile, child welfare officials are working to secure a safe and permanent home for the baby girl, who has already endured more than any child ever should.
