Easing of anti-Russian sanctions will follow ceasefire agreement in Ukraine – Steven Witkoff

The special representative of U.S. President Donald Trump, Steven Witkoff, stated that a complete ceasefire in Ukraine could be achieved within the next two weeks. He shared this in an interview with Bloomberg TV.

According to Witkoff, the details of the agreement will be discussed on March 23 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where negotiations between representatives of the U.S. and Russia will take place. He also noted the “positive results” of previous contacts between the parties.

Earlier, on March 18, Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation that lasted more than two hours. During the discussion, they addressed the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict, including the American leader’s proposal for a mutual 30-day halt to strikes on energy infrastructure by Moscow and Kyiv. Putin supported this initiative.

Witkoff also suggested that a meeting between Trump and Putin could take place in Saudi Arabia. The easing of anti-Russian sanctions, according to the U.S. special representative, will also become possible after a ceasefire agreement is reached.
