Polish authorities have decided to enhance border security measures with Belarus in response to the increasing migratory pressure in recent days, RMF24 reports.
Attempts at illegal border crossings have been recorded along the entire section in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. Migrants use ladders to climb over fences and also try to cross small border rivers.
Polish Minister of Internal Affairs Tomasz Siemoniak stated that the situation is worsening, but the authorities are prepared for such developments. According to him, over the past twelve days, the number of border crossing attempts has increased significantly—from just a few per day to dozens.
In response to the growing migratory pressure, the authorities have decided to increase the number of security forces and install additional physical and electronic barriers. Siemoniak emphasized that the border will remain well-protected.
Over the past 24 hours, Polish border guards have recorded nearly 180 attempts at illegal border crossings, as well as an attack by migrants on a patrol.
