FBI agent Jonathan Buma has been arrested in the United States on charges of leaking classified information related to a special service investigation into the development of weapons of mass destruction by another country.
According to New York Post, Buma, who worked in counterintelligence, was taken into custody on Monday before boarding an international flight. Court documents reveal that Buma printed confidential FBI materials and shared them with his associates in 2023. It is also reported that in a draft of his book, which he planned to publish, Buma intended to disclose information obtained during his service with the FBI. Specifically, the material concerned the FBI’s investigation into a foreign country’s weapons of mass destruction program.
The arrest took place just before Buma’s departure for an international meeting, and charges were formally brought against him the following day.
