Hungary’s central intelligence body has been tasked with compiling a report and a blacklist of Hungarian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and media outlets that have received any foreign funding over the past decade.
This was reported by the portal VSquare, citing multiple sources linked to the Hungarian government.
The National Information Center, the intelligence agency responsible for gathering and analyzing data from all national security bodies, has been assigned to carry out this task.
One VSquare source confirmed that Hungarian intelligence efforts will focus on human rights groups and media organizations that have received financial support from Europe or the United States in the last ten years.
News of the blacklist emerged just days after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán delivered a speech in which he vowed to rid the country of those who, in his view, serve foreign interests.
“We will dismantle the financial machine that used corrupt dollars to buy politicians, judges, journalists, pseudo-NGOs, and political activists. We will eliminate the entire shadow army,” Orbán declared.
