Tesla hit with eighth recall of Cybertruck due to hazardous exterior panel

Tesla is facing another setback as U.S. safety regulators recall nearly all Cybertrucks on the road, marking the eighth recall of the vehicle since deliveries began just over a year ago.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced Thursday that more than 46,000 Cybertrucks are affected due to a potential safety hazard.

The recall centers around an exterior panel along the left and right sides of the windshield, which could detach while driving, creating a road hazard for other drivers and increasing the risk of a crash. The panel, known as the cant rail assembly, is attached to the truck’s frame with a structural adhesive.

The NHTSA noted that the remedy would involve using an adhesive resistant to “environmental embrittlement” and adding reinforcements to ensure the panel stays secure. Tesla has committed to replacing the panel free of charge, with owner notification letters expected to be mailed on May 19, 2025.

This recall affects 46,096 Cybertrucks from the 2024 and 2025 model years, manufactured between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025. Tesla became aware of the issue earlier this year.

The recall follows a series of high-profile incidents, including viral videos on social media showing individuals ripping off the panels with their hands. Since its launch in late 2023, the Cybertruck has faced several recalls, with previous issues ranging from faulty electric inverters to stuck acceleration pedals and problematic windshield wipers.

This recall is another challenge for the Elon Musk-led automaker, which has faced increasing scrutiny since the beginning of the Trump administration. Although no injuries have been reported, Tesla showrooms, vehicle lots, charging stations, and privately owned cars have been targeted in recent incidents.
