On March 21, the Swiss Federal Council approved the country’s participation in a partnership support project of the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), which includes the supply of missiles for Patriot missile defense systems.
According to the Swiss government’s press service, the project aims to strengthen the country’s security and increase the availability of spare parts for Patriot air defense systems. This decision will also allow Swiss industrial companies to participate in NSPA tenders for the procurement of Patriot missiles.
The Swiss government emphasizes that participation in the project is fully compatible with the country’s neutrality, and in the event of one of the participants being involved in an international armed conflict, Switzerland will be able to withdraw from it.
Authorities and society are also increasingly leaning toward expanding security cooperation, including with NATO. Meanwhile, relations between Switzerland and the Alliance continue to raise concerns within the right-wing Swiss People’s Party, which holds a majority in parliament.
