U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the “outlines” of a ceasefire agreement between Ukraine and Russia already exist.
This became possible thanks to his recent phone conversations with the presidents of both countries, Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin.
I had very good conversations with President Zelensky and President Putin. I think we have the outlines of an agreement, Trump said at a press conference in the Oval Office of the White House.
Trump expressed confidence that a complete ceasefire would be achieved soon, adding that specific treaties and “territorial divisions” are being discussed. He emphasized that his main goal is to end the war in Ukraine to save lives and reduce U.S. expenses on military aid to Kyiv.
Trump also stated that if he had been president in 2022, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia would not have happened, claiming that under the current president, Joe Biden, the U.S. does not have “competent leadership.”
This week, the Kremlin promised to suspend attacks on energy infrastructure, which was partially supported by Zelensky.
