A river in Spain destroyed a historic bridge due to bad weather

Residents of the city of Talavera de la Reina in Spain witnessed the partial collapse of the oldest bridge, the so-called Roman Bridge.

Its structure couldn’t withstand the powerful flow of water in the Tajo River, caused by the storm “Martinho.” According to the 20minutos.es publication, videos recorded by locals captured the moment the bridge was destroyed by the force of the water, whose flow reached 1,000 cubic meters per second.

Witnesses of the event were shocked by what happened; however, fortunately, the bridge had been closed to visitors at the time of the incident. The Roman Bridge, also known as the Old Bridge or Santa Catalina Bridge, is the oldest in the city. It was restored in the late 15th century under the direction of Friar Pedro de los Molinos and has been renovated several times since then, most recently in 2002.
