The right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD) has reached its highest level of public support ever, according to a recent INSA poll conducted for Bild.
The survey, carried out between March 21-24 among 2,004 respondents, shows that the conservative CDU/CSU bloc, led by Friedrich Merz, remains the most popular party with 27% support. However, its rating has dropped by 2 percentage points since the previous poll on March 17.
AfD now ranks second with a record-breaking 23.5% support, gaining 1.5 percentage points in just a week. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) follows in third place at 14.5%, as it continues coalition negotiations with the CDU/CSU. The Greens (12%) and The Left (10.5%) round out the top five.
The poll results indicate a significant shift from the February 23 elections, where CDU/CSU secured 28.5% of the vote and AfD received 20.8%. AfD’s growing support signals increasing public backing for the right-wing party amid Germany’s shifting political landscape.
