European politicians are worried about the possibility of the U.S. halting the servicing of American weapons in EU countries, according to the Washington Post, citing sources.
This concern is linked to the policy of U.S. President Donald Trump towards NATO allies. According to regulations, the use and maintenance of certain weapon systems must be carried out by U.S. citizens, which raises concerns among European authorities. Additionally, there may be potential restrictions on European weapons made with American components.
In early March, NBC News, citing sources in the U.S. administration, reported that Trump may refuse to defend a NATO ally if it does not meet defense spending commitments. Trump has repeatedly criticized Europe for its insufficient contribution to NATO’s defense capabilities and demanded that all member states increase their defense spending to 5% of GDP. At the same time, Pentagon chief Pete Hegset assured that the U.S. does not plan to reduce its military presence in Europe.
