France seized 130% more cocaine in 2024 than last year

France has reported a significant increase in the amount of drugs seized in 2024, particularly cocaine, which was 130% higher than in 2023.

According to BFMTV, French customs officials announced a 74% rise in the volume of drugs discovered compared to the previous year. Of the 111 tons of narcotics seized in 2024, 21 tons were cocaine. In total, including the amounts intercepted by other services such as the police, gendarmerie, and maritime control, France intercepted 53.5 tons of cocaine, which is 130% more than in 2023.

Additionally, customs officials seized nearly 490 tons of smuggled tobacco in 2024, a decrease from 521 tons in 2023 and 649 tons in 2022. Currently, the National Assembly is reviewing a bill aimed at strengthening the fight against drug trafficking.

Last week, French customs seized over 800 kilograms of cocaine from a heavy truck in the southeast of the country. In February, a cocaine shipment worth $15 million was also recovered from the sea floor near Gdańsk, Poland.
