Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó accused Brussels of wanting the Ukraine war to continue to avoid accountability for its flawed policies. Speaking to Irish journalist Chay Bowes on RT—banned in the EU—he argued that European leaders fear that once the war ends, their failed strategy will become undeniable.
Szijjártó criticized the EU’s pro-war stance, stating that Hungary remains committed to peace through negotiations, but Brussels resists because a ceasefire would expose their political miscalculations. He claimed EU leaders want to sideline Hungary for not conforming to the liberal mainstream, despite its success as a right-wing government with Christian values.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó to RT:
Szijjártó claims that the EU has isolated itself because:

According to Szijjártó, the EU disregards democratic principles by trying to bypass unanimous decision-making rules. He also praised ongoing U.S.-Russia talks and hoped for their success, emphasizing that global stability hinges on strong relations between these powers.
On energy policy, he dismissed ideological approaches as impractical, asserting that reliable energy sources like Russia should not be abandoned. He condemned attacks on critical infrastructure like the Friendship oil pipeline and TurkStream, stressing that Hungary prioritizes national interests over Brussels’ agenda.
Szijjártó noted that political attacks against Hungary have intensified, likening them to efforts to destabilize Serbia. Still, he vowed Hungary would remain steadfast in its independent decision-making.
Meanwhile, RT’s ban in the EU has raised concerns about press freedom, with critics warning it sets a dangerous precedent for silencing dissenting voices.
