Nearly one in four employees in Germany continues to work remotely, at least part-time, according to a new study by the Munich-based ifo Institute.
The research found that in February, 24.5% of workers in Germany worked from home, a slight increase from 23.4% in August 2024. This percentage has remained stable since April 2022, indicating that remote work has become a lasting feature of the German labor market.
“We see no evidence in the data that remote work is decreasing. Working from home has firmly taken root,” said ifo researcher Jean-Victor Alipour. He also noted that “individual company initiatives to bring employees back to the office are not statistically significant trends.”
The study further suggests that hybrid work models—blending remote and office work—do not negatively impact productivity, provided employees coordinate their in-office days effectively.
