U.S. vice president says Trump intends to take control of Greenland

US Vice President JD Vance stated that Donald Trump’s administration is seriously focused on establishing control over Greenland.

In an interview with Fox News, he remarked that “Denmark is not doing its job,” and the US must be prepared to show territorial interest in the island if necessary to protect American national interests.

Vance’s wife and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz are planning to visit Greenland, despite local authorities’ protests. Greenland views the visit as a provocation, as stated by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The visit comes amid increasing rhetoric surrounding a possible US annexation of the island.

Greenland, located at a crucial geographical crossroads between Europe and North America, also attracts attention for its rich mineral resources. The Trump administration continues to push for the island’s annexation, despite opposition from both the Greenlandic government and the majority of its population.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed concern, stating that the dialogue on Greenland will be conducted with respect to Denmark’s sovereignty and in close coordination with local authorities.
