The hidden, nefarious influence of Open Society: How Soros-funded organizations shape the Brussels agenda

Recent research by the Center for Fundamental Rights has unveiled the astonishing extent to which billionaire financier George Soros has exerted influence over European political discourse through his Open Society Foundations (OSF). Between 2016 and 2023, OSF funneled approximately $90 million (around 35 billion forints) into Brussels-based NGOs, many of which are actively pushing a globalist, progressive, and anti-sovereignty agenda. This revelation raises serious concerns about the erosion of national sovereignty and the subversive tactics employed to manipulate the European political landscape.

The Growing Financial Power of Soros-Backed Organizations

One of the most striking findings of the study is the dramatic increase in funding to these Brussels-based organizations, particularly in the lead-up to the 2024 European Parliament elections. From a relatively modest $4 million in 2016, OSF’s funding skyrocketed to $30 million by 2023—nearly a tenfold increase. This clearly suggests a strategic intent to influence the political climate of the European Union and ensure that ideological allies of the Soros network continue to dominate the decision-making process in Brussels.

While Soros has often publicly downplayed his involvement in European affairs, these figures expose the contrary. His financial empire has systematically channeled resources into organizations that align with his vision of open borders, radical gender ideology, and an erosion of national identity. The ongoing expansion of these funds, despite claims of withdrawal from European activities, reveals a well-coordinated effort to sustain and expand globalist influence.

The Recipients: A Network of Ideological Activism

An analysis of the 30 most heavily funded organizations reveals a troubling pattern: these NGOs overwhelmingly promote leftist, globalist, and identity politics-driven causes. The list includes groups advocating for mass migration, LGBTQ activism, pro-abortion policies, and so-called “fact-checking” organizations that operate with a clear ideological bias.

One of the largest recipients, the International Partnership for Human Rights, received $8.2 million from OSF. This organization has openly criticized Hungary’s government, labeling its policies as “undemocratic restrictions on NGOs.” Notably, one of its board members, Márta Pardavi, is also a co-chair of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, another Soros-funded entity notorious for attacking Hungary’s migration policies.

Another significant beneficiary, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association – Europe (ILGA-Europe), secured substantial funding to promote radical gender ideology across the continent. This organization has been instrumental in pushing EU policies that undermine traditional family structures and national legislation protecting the rights of parents and children.

Meanwhile, the European Network Against Racism (ENAR) actively vilifies conservative governments, including Hungary’s, branding Fidesz’s efforts to improve public safety as “racism.” This type of politically motivated activism, masked as human rights advocacy, serves to delegitimize national governments that resist the globalist agenda.

The Manipulation of European Politics

Soros-funded NGOs do not operate in isolation; they work in concert to steer public opinion, influence EU policies, and attack governments that do not conform to their ideological framework. These organizations were at the forefront of campaigns against Hungary’s “Stop Soros” law, which sought to curb foreign interference in national affairs. They have also lobbied against EU-wide transparency measures aimed at exposing foreign funding for political activism.

Furthermore, the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), which received OSF funding, actively discourages the use of the term “illegal migration,” aiming to normalize uncontrolled immigration into Europe. The group’s Hungarian affiliate, Menedék Migránsokat Segítő Szervezet, has been instrumental in opposing border security measures, advocating instead for increased migration into Hungary and Europe as a whole.

Transparency International’s Brussels branch, another recipient of Soros’s largesse, has long been accused of using its annual Corruption Perceptions Index as a political weapon against conservative governments. Hungary has been a frequent target, with Transparency International’s Hungarian branch—also OSF-funded—playing a key role in amplifying these politically motivated reports.

Weaponizing Disinformation and Censorship

In addition to promoting mass migration and radical social policies, OSF-funded entities have also sought to monopolize the “truth.” The EU DisinfoLab, which received funding from OSF, has positioned itself as an authority on “fact-checking,” yet its reports consistently target conservative governments and media outlets critical of the Brussels elite. This organization has, for example, labeled Hungary’s national consultations as “disinformation,” simply because they challenge the dominant liberal narrative on migration, gender ideology, and foreign policy.

The European Movement International, another Soros-backed organization, goes beyond “fact-checking” by actively campaigning against right-wing parties and leaders. In a 2024 video, they depicted Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as a puppet of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a baseless smear clearly designed to damage Hungary’s standing within the EU.

The Need for Sovereign Resistance

The revelations from the Center for Fundamental Rights underscore the urgent need for European nations to reclaim their sovereignty from the grip of foreign-funded NGOs. The extent to which the Soros network has infiltrated Brussels-based organizations demonstrates a well-oiled machine dedicated to undermining national governments, reshaping European identity, and imposing a globalist vision on the continent.

Hungary, under the leadership of Viktor Orbán, has been at the forefront of resisting these efforts, implementing legal measures to curtail foreign influence in domestic politics. However, as the continued expansion of OSF funding illustrates, these globalist forces are not retreating; they are doubling down on their agenda.

As the EU gears up for another election cycle, it is imperative that European citizens remain vigilant. The massive financial resources at Soros’s disposal enable him to shape narratives, support ideological allies, and suppress dissenting voices. Countering this influence requires a concerted effort from national governments, independent media, and civil society groups that genuinely uphold European values and national sovereignty.

The battle for Europe’s future is not just a theoretical debate—it is an ongoing struggle between those who seek to preserve the cultural, historical, and political integrity of nation-states and those who wish to dissolve them into a borderless, homogenized entity controlled by unelected elites. Soros’s funding is not just about supporting NGOs; it is about controlling the very foundations of European democracy and governance.

The time for complacency is over. The exposure of the OSF’s activities in Brussels is a wake-up call for all those who value national sovereignty and democratic integrity. The fight against globalist overreach must intensify, ensuring that European nations remain free from the undue influence of foreign billionaires and their ideological crusades.
