Majority of Czechs support legalization of euthanasia

According to a survey, 72% of Czechs support the legalization of euthanasia in the country. Currently, this practice is prohibited in the Czech Republic for ethical reasons.

The Catholic Church and part of the medical community remain the main opponents of euthanasia. The Church considers it a violation of the Fifth Commandment, “Thou shalt not kill,” while many doctors express concerns from a professional ethics perspective.

Recently, Czech President Petr Pavel spoke on the issue, stating that he supports a person’s right to decide on their own end of life in the case of a terminal illness.
