According to Daily Mail, British security experts are urging citizens to prepare a 72-hour emergency survival kit in case of potential power outages.
The publication notes that as the UK strives to achieve carbon neutrality, it has shut down many coal-fired power plants and is now heavily dependent on imported electricity and gas. Nearly 40% of the country’s gas is supplied via Norway’s Langeled pipeline.
Last year, according to Daily Mail, the UK narrowly avoided rolling blackouts thanks to emergency reserves and electricity imports from Denmark. In light of this, experts believe the country should follow the European Union’s example, where citizens have already been advised to maintain a three-day emergency supply at home.
The recommended basic kit should include drinking water, medication, important documents, a flashlight, non-perishable food, a battery-powered radio, and a Swiss army knife.
Earlier, the European Commission published guidelines on preparing the population for emergency situations, urging EU citizens to be ready for various threats. Additionally, as reported by Europe 1 radio, France is planning to distribute survival instructions this summer in case of war on French territory, along with a call for citizens to join the military reserve forces.
