South Korean authorities have announced an unprecedented operation: the coast guard intercepted a record cocaine shipment — two tons of drugs were discovered aboard a ship flying the Norwegian flag. This marks the largest drug import attempt in the country’s history.
The ship contained 56 bags weighing between 30 to 40 kilograms each. Some of the packages were marked with the logo of the French fashion brand Dior, which authorities believe was an attempt to disguise the contraband as luxury goods. However, tests confirmed that the contents were pure cocaine.
According to customs officials, the seized shipment is valued at 632.1 million euros. This significantly exceeds South Korea’s previous drug seizure record — 404 kilograms of methamphetamine intercepted in 2021.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to establish the supply routes and potential international connections of the criminal network.
