In a chilling turn of events, a 41-year-old Senegalese migrant has confessed to the murder of Italian security guard Federico Perissi, whose body was discovered buried in mud near Lake Bilancino in Tuscany.
]The gruesome find followed the suspect’s arrest in Ferrara and his cooperation with investigators, who were led to the crime scene during a rainy early morning operation on Tuesday.
Perissi, 45, had reportedly been traveling with the suspect when the incident unfolded. The pair, who were acquainted, had been driving along Via del Lago toward the highway. What happened next is still under investigation, but police say Perissi was beaten, then shot, and ultimately buried near the lake. A suitcase was found in the vehicle, and investigators are now trying to determine whether the murder weapon belonged to Perissi or was brought by the suspect.
After the killing, the suspect allegedly fled the area, taking the A1 motorway before crashing the car in a ravine. He then made his way to Ferrara, where he’s accused of committing a robbery before being taken into custody. It was during questioning that he came clean and pointed authorities to where he had buried the body.
Perissi was off duty at the time of his death. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, but authorities have confirmed the investigation is ongoing. Notably, the suspect had recently been arrested in Florence for a separate incident involving an attempted kidnapping outside a nightclub in the Novoli district.
As the case unfolds, questions are swirling about what led to this violent act—and whether it was premeditated or erupted in the heat of the moment. Either way, Italy is reeling from another high-profile crime that’s sure to reignite debate over security, migration, and justice.
