Jordan Bardella, president of France’s Rassemblement National (RN), didn’t hold back in a fiery op-ed for Le Figaro, calling on Europe to stop sacrificing its economy on the altar of global trade and climate policy.
Titled “Europe Can No Longer Be the Sacrificial Victim of World Trade,” Bardella’s piece takes aim at the EU’s Green Deal, branding it a “weapon of mass destruction” for European industry. The ambitious climate initiative, aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, has, according to Bardella, drained value from the economy and crushed business incentives to invest or innovate.
Bardella also tied his criticism to rising trade tensions, referencing former U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to slap tariffs on European goods. He argued that while global competitors protect their interests, Europe is shackling itself with regulations that leave it economically exposed and strategically weakened.
The RN leader has long advocated for putting the Green Deal on ice—at least temporarily—warning that continued adherence could cripple Europe’s global competitiveness at a time when resilience is more critical than ever.
