EU may limit exports to US if trade talks fail

The European Union is considering the possibility of imposing export restrictions on the United States if current trade negotiations do not yield the desired results, according to informed sources cited by Bloomberg.

According to these sources, the restrictions are being considered as a potential countermeasure within a broader EU strategy to protect its economic interests. In addition to export limitations, new tariffs and restrictions on the participation of American companies in EU public procurement are also being discussed.

It has not yet been clarified which sectors might be affected by these restrictions. Sources note that any further escalation of the trade conflict could require approval at the level of EU member state governments.

On April 9, Donald Trump announced a temporary suspension of previously proposed tariffs for 90 days, without specifying which countries or sectors would be affected by this decision. On April 17, he met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who had previously spoken with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
