Harvard sues Trump over funding cuts

Harvard University has filed a lawsuit against the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump, challenging the decision to cut federal funding and the demands that the university views as an attempt to censor international students.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Trump administration intended to slash Harvard’s financial support by another $1 billion due to the university’s refusal to implement changes in its staffing and educational policies.

The lawsuit claims that the administration’s actions threaten academic freedom and could undermine vital and life-saving research conducted at the university. Harvard argues that these actions are part of a broader effort to punish the institution for defending its constitutional rights.

Harvard has also rejected accusations that it has ignored instances of antisemitism, particularly among international students. The university emphasized that it is actively working to combat discrimination but remains committed to upholding freedom of speech and expression.

Earlier, the U.S. Department of Education announced it would cut $2.2 billion in federal funding to Harvard, citing the university’s refusal to comply with the White House’s demands for policy changes.
