Former U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that he and First Lady Melania Trump will travel to Rome to attend the funeral of Pope Francis, who passed away on the morning of April 21. Trump announced the news on his social media platform, Truth Social.
The funeral ceremony is expected to take place at the Vatican between the fourth and sixth days following the pontiff’s death. The exact date and time have not yet been officially confirmed. It is well known that the First Lady practices the Catholic faith, and her participation in the funeral holds special personal significance.
Earlier, the Vatican reported that Pope Francis died as a result of a stroke. The official cause of death was released by Professor Andrea Arcangeli, Director of the Vatican’s Directorate of Health and Hygiene. The diagnosis was confirmed through electrocardiographic thanatography — a specialized ECG recording used to verify the complete and irreversible cessation of heart activity.
According to the report, the Pope fell into a coma and suffered an irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse — a condition in which the heart and circulatory system cease functioning entirely and cannot be revived.
