A police aircraft crashed into the sea off the coast of Hua Hin, a popular Thai resort town. All six officers on board were killed, according to the Royal Thai Police.
Police spokesperson Archayon Kraithong stated that the aircraft was conducting a training flight in preparation for upcoming parachute jump exercises. The crash occurred at around 8 a.m. local time.
Although the model of the aircraft has not been officially confirmed, photographs suggest it was a Viking DHC-6 Twin Otter turboprop. The plane went down approximately 100 meters from the shore, near Hua Hin Airport. Images show that the fuselage broke into two pieces.
Five officers died at the scene, and the sixth passed away later in the hospital.
The cause of the crash remains unknown. Authorities are investigating the incident, analyzing data from the plane’s black box and collecting other evidence.
