India has offered exclusive trade guarantees to the U.S.

India is prepared to offer the United States special terms in ongoing trade negotiations, including a provision granting Washington a “most favored nation in the future” status, Reuters reports. The move aims to expedite the conclusion of a trade deal with the administration of Donald Trump.

According to sources cited by the outlet, the proposed mechanism would ensure that the U.S. automatically receives any more favorable tariff terms that India might offer to other countries in future agreements. This approach is intended to shield the deal from future trade imbalances and make it more attractive to Washington.

The offer comes as India seeks to strengthen its economic ties with the U.S. amid rising global trade tensions. Since 2019, trade relations between the two nations have faced challenges, particularly after Washington removed India from the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), which had granted preferential access to the U.S. market.

Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming months.
