According to outage tracking site Downdetector.com, users have been experiencing issues with accessing the chatbot for the past two days, with a large surge in reports around 12:30 pm CET on Thursday. The number of reports reached a peak of over 6,600 in the UK and over 4,300 in the United States.
Users have been reporting a “Bad gateway” error message when attempting to access the site or app. Additionally, some users have experienced issues with upload speeds or accessing ChatGPT on Wednesday. The problems have affected users from around the world, with DeepAI acknowledging a partial outage and increased error rates for ChatGPT.
Initially, OpenAI stated that the issue had been resolved after implementing a fix between 3:33 am and 4:23 am PST (12:33 pm and 1:23 pm CET), but users are still reporting outages. The company has since updated its website to say that the ongoing issue has been investigated and the cause found.
This is not the first time ChatGPT has experienced an outage; DeepAI’s last major reported outage occurred on December 26, when the chatbot was out of action for three hours. Users have taken to social media to express their frustration with the disruptions, with some reporting issues with photo uploads and file uploads.
