The ruling party, “Georgian Dream”, emerged victorious with 53.93% of the vote (89 seats). Four opposition parties also secured seats in the parliament:
– “For Change”: 11.03% (19 seats),
– “Unity – National Movement”, formed from Saakashvili’s party: 10.17% (16 seats),
– Coalition “Strong Georgia”: 8.81% (14 seats),
– “For Georgia”, led by former Prime Minister Gakharia: 7.78% (12 seats).
The opposition has rejected the election results and vowed not to take their seats in the new parliament. Protests took place outside the Central Election Commission building today, where police pushed demonstrators back from the premises.
