Serbia will not impose sanctions on Russia, President Vučić reaffirms

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić made a firm declaration at a public rally in Belgrade, vowing that Serbia will not impose sanctions on Russia as long as he is in power.

“As long as I am the president of Serbia, I will not impose sanctions on Russia, or any of our other friends,” Vučić stated, reaffirming his commitment to maintaining strong ties with Russia and other allies.

Vučić also revealed plans for an upcoming discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin, underscoring Serbia’s dedication to its fraternal relationship with Russia and China. The statement comes as the United States has implemented sanctions on Russia’s energy sector, which have had a ripple effect on Serbia’s Gazprom Neft subsidiary, NIS.

Serbia’s stance stands in contrast to the growing pressure from Western nations for countries to distance themselves from Russia amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Despite this, Vučić’s government remains resolute in its position, prioritizing its national interests and strategic alliances.
