Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House next week, marking Netanyahu’s first visit to the U.S. since Trump’s re-election.
Netanyahu’s office confirmed the meeting will take place on February 4, and he is the first foreign leader invited to the White House during Trump’s second term.
A White House official confirmed the meeting is planned but noted that the exact date and time have not yet been finalized. Trump had earlier mentioned to reporters that Netanyahu would be traveling to Washington “very soon.”
This meeting comes amid a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, following a deal to halt the war in Gaza. Trump had previously claimed credit for facilitating the ceasefire and the release of hostages, stating the agreement was “epic” and possible only because of his victory in the November presidential election.
Additionally, the White House meeting follows Trump’s recent proposal for Egypt and Jordan to take in Palestinians from Gaza, a suggestion that has faced rejection from both the Palestinian Authority and neighboring countries. This idea, however, has been supported by hardline right-wing members of Netanyahu’s government.
