Taxi drivers in Madrid staged a mass protest against the sharp increase in the cost of insurance policies required for their work.
According to the professional association Elite Taxi Barcelona, insurance prices have risen by 300%, sparking outrage in the industry. The association also reported that a taxi drivers’ rally took place at El Prat Airport (Barcelona). Drivers accuse insurance companies of colluding to artificially inflate policy prices.
Additionally, the protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with ride-hailing services such as Uber, Cabify, and Bolt, blaming them for worsening working conditions for traditional taxi drivers. Madrid taxi drivers showed solidarity with their colleagues in Barcelona. The Taxi Project association announced the start of a demonstration in the capital, stating that it is aimed at fighting abuses in the insurance sector.
