Trump called nuclear weapons the greatest ‘existential threat’

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he considers nuclear weapons, rather than climate change, to be the greatest threat to humanity.

In an interview with Fox News, he criticized the position of his predecessor, Joe Biden, who has emphasized the dangers of climate change.

For years, I’ve listened to Biden talk about an ‘existential threat.’ He loved that term. He claimed that our biggest threat is climate. And I said: no, the biggest threat sits on shelves in various countries – it’s nuclear weapons, these huge ‘monsters’ that can blow you away for miles. But they (Democrats) never talk about it, Trump said.

These remarks come amid ongoing discussions within the American political establishment about national security priorities. The Biden administration considers climate change one of the most significant challenges of the 21st century, while Trump insists that the primary threat lies in the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Previously, Trump has repeatedly advocated for strengthening the U.S. nuclear arsenal, arguing that it is the only way to ensure national security. During his administration, the U.S. withdrew from several international arms control agreements, including the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, which raised concerns among U.S. allies.

Experts note that nuclear security remains a pressing issue, especially amid rising international tensions. Analysts suggest that Trump’s statements may be part of his campaign rhetoric as he prepares for the 2024 presidential election, where he aims to reclaim the presidency.
