Elon Musk points to Ukraine after X suffers major cyberattack

Elon Musk has blamed a “massive cyberattack” for disrupting X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, leaving over 40,000 users unable to access the platform. According to Musk, the attack was highly coordinated and required significant resources, suggesting the involvement of either a well-organized group, a nation-state, or possibly both.

Cyberattack Hits X Hard

Musk broke the news directly on X, stating that while the platform faces hacking attempts daily, this particular breach was on another level. “We get attacked all the time, but this one was big—very big,” he wrote. “Tracing where it’s coming from…”

Later in the day, during an interview with Fox News, Musk claimed that the cyber assault was linked to IP addresses originating from Ukraine. Though he didn’t provide specifics, the revelation came amid rising tensions between Washington and Kyiv, with the U.S. government scaling back intelligence-sharing and restricting Ukraine’s access to satellite imagery.

Hacker Group Claims Responsibility

Meanwhile, in a now-deleted Telegram post, a group calling itself Dark Storm Team took credit for the attack. Whether they were truly behind it remains uncertain.

Reports of outages spiked at 10 a.m. in the UK and surged again by 2 p.m., according to Downdetector.com, a site that tracks service disruptions.

While Musk and X engineers continue to investigate the attack, the incident adds yet another layer of intrigue to the growing digital warfare unfolding on the global stage.
