Netanyahu visits Hungary amid ICC arrest warrant controversy

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to travel to Hungary on Wednesday evening, staying until Sunday morning, according to The Times of Israel.

His visit comes amid ongoing tensions over the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant against him for alleged war crimes in Gaza. Netanyahu will meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who has publicly rejected the ICC’s decision and assured Netanyahu that Hungary will not enforce the arrest warrant. Orbán had personally invited Netanyahu for the visit.

Hungary recently announced a reassessment of its cooperation with the ICC, following a U.S. presidential order imposing sanctions on the court.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó criticized the ICC, stating that it had become “a biased political tool,” undermining the credibility of the international judicial system.

The ICC has previously emphasized that it relies on its member states, including Hungary, to carry out its rulings. However, with Orbán’s firm stance against enforcement, Netanyahu’s visit is expected to proceed without legal complications.

On February 6, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an order imposing sanctions on the ICC, primarily in response to its warrants against senior Israeli officials, including Netanyahu.
