China’s Ministry of Finance has announced that tariffs on all goods imported from the United States will be raised from 84% to 125% starting April 12, according to Bloomberg.
This move comes in response to recent actions by U.S. President Donald Trump, who increased tariffs on Chinese goods. In its statement, the Chinese ministry emphasized that any further tariff measures from Washington would be ignored.
Given that at the current tariff levels, the market can no longer absorb U.S. goods exported to China, any additional tariffs imposed by the U.S. on Chinese exports will not be taken seriously, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the White House clarified that as a result of Trump’s latest decisions, the total U.S. tariff rate on Chinese imports could reach as high as 145%.
Previously, on April 9, Donald Trump announced a 90-day suspension of his previously declared sweeping tariffs on most countries around the world. However, no specific details have been provided about which countries and products will be affected by this decision. At the same time, the U.S. President declared an “immediate” increase in tariffs specifically targeting China.
