Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák, a close ally of Prime Minister Robert Fico, has shown photos of clothing with visible bullet holes and dried blood for the first time.
This was in response to doubts about the authenticity of the assassination attempt and the severity of the injuries sustained by the Slovak Prime Minister.
Kaliňák gave an interview to Slovak blogger Oscar Barami. When asked what he would say to those doubting the truth of the assassination attempt, the minister showed photos taken in the hospital where Fico was brought after the attack. The images show three photos of a jacket with small holes and blood, as well as two photos of Fico’s bloodstained shirt, which the interviewers blurred.
The assassination attempt on the Prime Minister took place on May 15, 2024, as he was returning from an off-site government meeting. Fico sustained several gunshot wounds, and the shooter, 71-year-old Juraj Cintula, was detained at the scene. At the end of May 2024, Fico was discharged from the hospital and continued his recovery at home, returning to work in July.
