Northern Italy continues to suffer from the devastating impact of relentless rain and widespread flooding.
Continuous downpours have turned small streams into raging torrents, overflowing their banks and inundating homes and roads. So far, seven fatalities have been reported. Two of the victims died near the city of Vicenza. A 65-year-old man and his 21-year-old son, who were volunteering in rescue operations, lost their lives when the bridge they were crossing in a Fiat car collapsed into the Agno River. Surveillance cameras captured the moment the bridge gave way in the town of Valdagno. Their bodies were found around ten hours later, buried in silt about 15 kilometers downstream.
Another tragic incident occurred in Monteu da Po, near Turin, where a 92-year-old man drowned in his home. In Naples, four people were killed when a cable car line failed and the cabin plunged to the ground. One person survived the fall but sustained serious injuries.
The severe weather has also affected the regions of Valle d’Aosta, Turin, and Milan. In Milan, strong winds caused large trees to fall onto parked vehicles, though fortunately no injuries were reported. In the Piedmont region, entire areas have been submerged by floodwaters.
Meteorologists warn that the rain may continue for several more days, raising concerns about further flooding and landslides. Authorities are urging residents to stay alert and follow safety instructions.
