White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has denied an NPR report claiming that the Trump administration is allegedly searching for a new Secretary of Defense to replace Pete Hegseth.
She addressed the matter on social media platform X on Monday.
The NPR article stated that the White House had initiated the process of finding a new defense chief amid a fresh scandal involving Hegseth. The scandal centers around the alleged sharing of classified military information with Hegseth’s relatives via the Signal messaging app.
“This NPR report is completely fake news based on a single anonymous source who clearly has no idea what they’re talking about. As the President (Trump) stated this morning, he fully supports the Secretary of Defense,” Leavitt wrote.
For context, The New York Times reported that Hegseth may have shared details about a March attack on Houthi targets in Yemen in a Signal group chat that included his wife, brother, and personal attorney.
However, the Pentagon has denied these allegations.
President Donald Trump has publicly praised Pete Hegseth’s performance, calling his work as Secretary of Defense “outstanding.”
