Daylight shooting in Brussels’ Schaarbeek district leaves one seriously injured, sparks police probe

A shooting in Brussels’ Schaarbeek district on the evening of April 21st left one person with life-threatening injuries. The incident, which took place near the entrance of Brussels North railway station, occurred in broad daylight, shocking onlookers and sparking an immediate police investigation.

CCTV footage of the event shows a group of men walking past a bar, catching the attention of patrons inside. Seconds later, the men, some armed with swords or machetes, are seen following one another. One man then pulls out a gun and opens fire, leaving a victim critically injured. The suspects are seen passing by the café multiple times.

While the exact details remain unclear, this violent episode is not isolated. Brussels has experienced a surge in shootings, often tied to clashes between migrant gangs and drug cartels. Just last week, two individuals were injured in a shooting in Anderlecht, and a series of shootings earlier this year left one person dead.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the Schaarbeek shooting, but incidents like these highlight ongoing concerns over safety in the Belgian capital.
