Latvian residents have reduced financial support for Ukraine and refugees

Over the past year, 34% of Latvian residents donated to support Ukraine or Ukrainian refugees, which is lower than in previous years. At the same time, the share of those who did not support Ukraine in any way has increased over the last year.

This is evidenced by data from a survey conducted by the market and public opinion research center SKDS, as reported by Delfi.

During last year’s survey, 38.7% of respondents said they donated in support of Ukraine or refugees. The highest level of activity was in the first two years of the war — in 2023, 41.9% gave such a response, and in 2022, it was 39.2% of those surveyed.

The proportion of respondents who did not support Ukraine or refugees in any way over the past year reached 38% this year, compared to 32.5% last year. Surveys conducted over the past four years also show that young people are the most active in supporting Ukraine and its people — this year, 48.4% of respondents aged 18–24 and 42.8% of those aged 25–34 donated to this cause.

In other age groups, the share of those who provided financial support to Ukraine ranges from 25% to 37%. The survey was conducted in March 2025, with participation from over 1,000 permanent residents of Latvia.
