The European Commission has announced plans to establish seven AI factories across Europe, with Finland and Sweden among the chosen countries. This initiative aims to boost the EU’s AI development and double its computing capacity.
EU Tech Commissioner Henna Virkkunen, from Finland, emphasized that the project is a crucial step toward making the EU a global leader in AI. “We are well on our way to realizing the AI plant initiative within the first 100 days of the new European Commission’s term,” she said, according to Europe Portal.
These AI factories will foster innovation and collaboration, with each facility designed as a dynamic ecosystem for AI advancement. The factories will be located in Luxembourg, Germany, Finland, Spain, Italy, and Greece, while Linköping University will oversee the Swedish AI facility. The project is expected to be completed between 2025 and 2026.
