Trump suggests possible reversal of U.S. authorization for long-range strikes on Russia

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump criticized the Biden administration’s decision to allow Ukraine to carry out long-range strikes deep into Russian territory.

Speaking in Palm Beach, Florida, on December 16, Trump voiced strong disapproval of permitting strikes “200 miles (approximately 320 kilometers) into Russia.”

“They did a bad thing. Because of this, the Koreans, North Korea, got involved,” he added, without elaborating further on the link between the strikes and North Korean involvement. Trump also claimed that the Biden administration had not consulted him before making the decision.

“Especially just weeks before I take over. Why would they do that without asking me what I thought? I think that was a big mistake,” he said.

Asked by a reporter if he would consider reversing the decision once in office, he responded: “I might yeah. I thought it was a very stupid thing to do.”

This statement adds to uncertainty over how the incoming Trump administration plans to approach military aid to Ukraine, particularly concerning policies implemented under President Biden’s tenure.
