Milan to enforce stricter smoking ban starting in 2025

Starting from January 1, 2025, a stricter smoking ban in public outdoor spaces will be enforced in Milan, a measure approved by the city council in 2020, as reported by the ANSA agency.

The initiative aims to combat air pollution and encourage a healthier lifestyle among residents. Smoking is already prohibited in certain outdoor areas, such as bus stops, but now the restrictions will extend to all public places, including streets, parks, and sports facilities, except when there is a distance of at least 10 meters between people who are smoking. The ban will not apply to e-cigarettes.

Last year, the Portuguese government proposed a law to extend the smoking ban to outdoor areas, including covered terraces, and to limit the sale of tobacco products. Meanwhile, in the French city of Nice, there are plans to introduce a smoking ban on all public beaches.
