Hungary reports cyberattack on defense procurement agency

Foreign hackers have breached the IT systems of Hungary’s government agency responsible for defense procurement, though no confidential military information was compromised.

This statement was made on Thursday, November 14, by Gergely Gulyás, Chief of Staff for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

At a briefing, Gulyás said that a “hostile foreign non-state hacker group attacked the Defense Procurement Agency.” He assured that “no confidential data about the military structure is processed there, so hackers cannot access it.”

However, Gulyás did not disclose the identity of the hacker group involved.

In response to a journalist’s question about what sensitive information the hackers may have accessed, he mentioned that it includes “plans and data regarding military procurement.”

“Nothing that could harm Hungary’s national security has been revealed,” he emphasized. According to the representative, an investigation is currently underway.
