A prisoner at Arles prison in the Bouches-du-Rhône department of France has taken five staff members hostage, local media report.
The incident occurred on Friday morning and involves four members of the prison’s medical team and one guard. The prisoner is reportedly armed with a makeshift bladed weapon.
In response, a special police unit has been deployed to the scene. France’s Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin, announced on the social media platform X that all necessary resources have been mobilized to address the crisis and stated that he is closely monitoring developments.
