Right-wing Alternative for Germany sees rising support ahead of early elections

With just a month and a half remaining before Germany’s early elections, the right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD) is seeing the most significant rise in support, according to a new poll conducted by Polit Barometer for the German broadcaster ZDF.

The conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) holds the top spot with 30% of voter support, which is down by one percentage point from the previous ZDF poll. The right-wing AfD remains in second place with 21%, showing a 2-point increase from the previous survey. This marks the largest rise in popularity among all political parties.

The Green Party comes in third with 15%, having gained one percentage point.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democratic Party (SPD) is in fourth place with 14% support, down by one percentage point.

The Free Democratic Party (FDP) and The Left Party (Die Linke) each have 4%, which means they would not secure seats in the Bundestag under the current polling.
