On Saturday evening, a rare tram accident occurred in the French city of Strasbourg, leaving 68 people injured.
The incident took place near Strasbourg’s railway station. One tram was stationary at an underground stop when another tram collided with it. According to preliminary information, the second tram initially started moving but soon stopped due to traffic congestion.
Then, for unknown reasons, it rolled backward and crashed into the first tram. At the time of the accident, both trams were carrying dozens of passengers. Witnesses suggest that the brakes of the second tram may have failed. Both drivers were unharmed, but tram services in the area have been suspended for several days.
Prosecutors have launched an investigation, classifying the incident as an accident. The possibility of intentional actions has been ruled out.
The last tram collision of this nature in Strasbourg occurred in 1998, when two cars collided in the same tunnel, injuring 17 people.
